What makes my acupuncture treatments different than the rest? People ask me all of the time, “is this acupuncture or is this Serene?” Here are some of the main differences with my acupuncture sessions:
1. Pulse Reading. As I’m taking your pulse, I am able to intuitively feel and listen into the pulse. I have the scientific background of pulsery but also use my intuition to help me diagnose symptoms of my patients.
2. Depth of Needles. Most Classical Acupuncturist only work with the superficial qi, which means the needles are applied superficially on the skin. I, however, go into the muscle of the body, depending on the patient. I assess the patient and meet the person’s qi where it’s at. For example, if someone comes in with an acute injury, the person’s qi is more superficial because the central nervous system is being over stimulated. As the CNS is overstimulated, we are more sensitive, therefore, I would stay more superficial with the needles. Another example, however, is if someone has a high pain tolerance, their qi is very deep, therefore, I would needle into the deeper layer of the muscles to reach that person‘s qi. A qi is like catching a fish. You will feel the needle actual suck down when you’ve caught the person’s qi.
3. Style and Focus. My style of treatment is medium to deep. Most often, I treat with Master Tung style, which means I treat one symptom at a time. The difference between Master Tung and Classical Acupuncture is Mast Tung treats one element at a time, while Classical Acupuncture treats all elements in one session. So if a person comes in with a chronic cough, headache and sore ankle, Classical acupuncture will treat all of these at the same time. With Master Tung, we will pick one based on your pulse, what your body is telling me and what you want to work on the most. This creates a more focused and powerful treatment.
4. Massage. The main thing that sets me apart from other acupuncturist is once I set the needles and let you cook for 30 minutes, I will massage the area that I was treating, as needed. For example, if someone comes in with a stiff neck and/or headache, I will work the neck to release tension. I use massage at the end of the treatment because the acupuncture sedates the nervous system which causes the muscles to release, therefore, deep tension is easily removed once you are in a more relaxed state.
5. Intuition. As I am working on the body, I pick up energy fields empathically. I am then able to project what is already known by the patient, which helps break the patterns that create disease. For example, I was treating a patient with chronic headaches. As I massaged her neck, I saw her husband’s presence so I asked my client if her husband was in town. She said yes. I asked how the visit went and she said fine. I knew this was not the case so we continued to discuss this matter and found that her tension and headaches were a result of her rhythm being thrown off when he is in town. This gives my patient more insight into what she already knows, but didn’t realize was affecting her physically. This information helped her understand the impact of the tension so she can make better choices around the situation. Tension and stress always go to the weakest link and in this case, her weakest link was her headaches.
There are 3 levels that I work with people:
1. Human – focused on physical body
2. Emotional – what is stored and then released that causes disease
3. Spiritual – this is what I hear/see with my intuition
When you work on all three of these in your body systems, you will begin to become an evolved, happy, healthy human.

Traditional Chinese medicine is a 3,000 year-old system of medicine that includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, and a host of other modalities. It is a comprehensive system of medicine that can be used to treat and prevent disease and promote wellness. Using the methods and principles of Chinese medicine, we evaluate each person individually and design a treatment plan. Sometimes acute symptoms or pain must be treated before the root imbalance may be addressed. Other conditions can only be resolved by gradually regulating the systems of the body to restore homeostasis. Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture treat internal medicine disorders as well as musculoskeletal conditions. Practitioners work closely with patients to achieve and maintain health goals.
